Development Matters

Development Matters is the tool we use to plan and assess in Early Years.

The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS) is made up of 3 prime areas and 4 specific areas.

Prime Areas

Communication and Language (C&L)

Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)

Physical Development

Specific Areas

Literacy

Mathematics

Understanding the World (UoW)

Expressive Arts and Design (EAD)

Curriculum Maps

Take a look at our half termly curriculum maps to see the key skills we are learning…

This term our current topic is This is Me!  We are learning each others names, learning about our bodies and making friends in our new class.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary is so important because it; improves reading comprehension, lends itself to language development, helps children to communicate their ideas and supports children to express themselves in writing.

With each topic comes a new set of vocabulary which we focus on for the rest of the half term.

Physical Education

We have 2 PE sessions each week. Children need to come to school wearing their PE kit.

Lesson 1 will be every Wednesday morning.

Lesson 2 will be every Thursday morning.

Busy Learning

In our classroom environment, both inside and outside, we have lots of fun activities.

These activities cover all areas of the EYFS curriculum.

We complete these independently and we call this busy learning!

Religious Education

We are a Church of England school and this is a big part of our curriculum.

A St James’ child values the fruits of the spirit in everything they do.

How do you show the fruits of the spirit?
